Diverted from landfill.
By design.

Helia EHS delivers end-to-end industrial waste characterisation, recycling and disposal programmes for manufacturers across Australia and New Zealand. We turn heavy, mixed and complex process residues into recovered material streams, and manage every step of the classification, cartage and compliance chain.

Our Capability

From plant floor
to recovered material

Industrial process residues from production lines, plant cleanouts, equipment changeovers, demolition and remediation works are heavy, variable and expensive to send to landfill. Helia EHS runs them the other way: recovered wherever possible, treated where recovery needs help, and disposed only as the last option. Every campaign is designed to a defensible waste hierarchy and delivered with per-stockpile evidence.
Recycle. Reuse.

Every campaign runs to a recycle-and-reuse-first priority, with disposal treated as the last option, not the default

Discrete

Waste segregation into separate stockpiles so high-contamination material is isolated and its volume is minimised

Day + Night

Supervision resourced across standard, weekend and night rates to match plant shutdown windows

Landfill-last

Cleanfill, Managed Fill, Controlled Fill and Hazardous streams routed to the highest-recovery outcome available

How We Deliver

The Recovered Waste Programme

A repeatable, evidence-led model for industrial clients. Segregate at source, classify at the stockpile, cart to the highest-recovery destination, and report the outcome. Built for production waste streams, plant cleanouts, equipment changeovers, demolition works, remediation projects, and any high-tonnage residue movement.

On-Site Segregation & Supervision

A Helia supervisor directs separation of material at the point it leaves the process. A civil contractor stages material into nominated bays under our control. Where the highest contamination sits in the fines, we sift fines from the coarse fraction on-site to reduce the volume of high-level waste needing disposal.

Tailored Testing & Classification

Instead of blending material and testing a single sample, we hold material in separate stockpiles and run confirmatory analytical testing per pile. XRF field screening informs stream allocation in real time. Laboratory results drive final classification (cleanfill through to hazardous) with a fast turnaround from sample to reported outcome.

Cartage & Recovery Routing

Helia engages truck captains, floats and loaders, and directs every classified load to the highest-recovery destination the classification allows. Recovered material is routed to reuse; low-level and hazardous streams are consigned to licensed facilities. Segregation is maintained from plant to destination and reconciled against disposal dockets.

Resource Recovery Plan & Reporting

Every programme closes with a Resource Recovery Plan and a per-stockpile classification report: an auditable evidence trail suitable for regulator, auditor and internal ESG reporting. Chain-of-custody records, disposal dockets and recovery ratios are compiled into a single client-facing report at close-out.

Why Helia EHS

We own the programme. Not just the samples.

Most consultants sample and classify. Helia designs the campaign, runs it on-site, directs the cartage, and reports the recovery outcome. One point of accountability, from the loader bucket to the recovery yard.

End-to-end delivery

Characterisation, segregation, cartage and reporting are managed as one programme, not four disconnected services.

Why Helia EHS

Not just advisors. Active developers.

Most EHS consultancies advise on data centre projects. Helia EHS has built one. That difference gives us a level of practical, commercial and regulatory knowledge that no academic or advisory background alone can replicate.

Hands-on development experience

Helia EHS has served as the originating project director on a 1.2 GW data centre proposal — giving us direct experience of every approval, commercial and technical challenge that large-scale developers face in the Australian market.

Deep South Australia capability

We have navigated PlanSA, the SA EPA, the Office of the Chief Government Officer and Ministerial engagement for data centre development — a regulatory environment, and the people within it, that we know intimately.

Connected to the hyperscale ecosystem

Our work on Project Spark brought us into direct engagement with global tier-one hyperscale operators, energy developers including Neoen, and grid specialists. We bring that network to every client relationship.

Integrated EHS and commercial lens

Our team combines technical EHS depth with commercial project management — meaning we understand both the environmental obligations and the investment pressures that drive data centre development timelines and decision-making.

Live market intelligence

We actively monitor the Australian data centre pipeline — including AirTrunk, Firmus, CDC Data Centres, IREN, and the SA and NSW planning and environmental approval portals — providing clients with a current, grounded view of the competitive landscape.

Certainty delivered

Our brand promise reflects our approach to data centre work: reducing ambiguity, managing risk proactively, and delivering the certainty that investors, operators and government agencies need to commit to major infrastructure.

SA Pipeline

South Australia's data centre moment

South Australia is emerging as a serious data centre location — driven by renewable energy advantages, available land, government support for AI infrastructure, and accelerating national demand. Helia EHS is tracking the full SA and national pipeline in real time.

Project Cobra — Tungkillo, SA

Up to 1.2 GW potential capacity. Multi-lot land assembly. Hyperscaler interest secured. Grid strategy, EIS, BESS and solar rights in progress.

IREN Bundey Data Centre Campus, SA

800 MW proposed campus near Bundey substation (~75 km NE of Adelaide). Transmission connection agreement executed. Development application not yet lodged.

AirTrunk, Firmus / Project Southgate, CDC Data Centres

Helia monitors the national data centre pipeline across AirTrunk Western Sydney, Firmus AI factory programmes (NSW, SA, Tas, Vic), and CDC Data Centres — keeping our clients ahead of competitive developments.
